"Seeta Aur Geeta" on television

Remember the Hema Malini classic “Seeta Aur Geeta” wherein she played the double role and had the audiences mesmerized with her wonderful acting talent. Hema played the simple and submissive “Seeta” on one hand and on the other the street smart, beautiful and brave “Geeta”. Two roles that were totally in contrast to one another played with such perfection. The film had superb actors like Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar playing the male leads. A classic that inspired several film makers to come up with varied versions of the double role story. “Seeta Aur Geeta” now moves from the silver screen to our very homes. NDTV Imagine has bought the rights of the film and is all set to convert it into a soap opera. Anjori Alagh is to play the role of Hema Malini, Cezanne Khan the role of Sanjeev Kumar and Gaurav Dixit is to fit the Dharmendra part. This is an absolutely new concept in the world of television and a new connection is being established with Bollywood. If the serial does click as usual we would see many more films right on our small screen at home. Is this the beginning of a whole new trend? Anyway experimentation is always welcome…as the viewers are the ones who always stand to gain. Just hope that the actors are able to do justice to this “classic” which is one of my favorites.
